CORRUPTION & URBAN DEVELOPMENT – UNI HABITAT, NAIROBI

Working in collaboration with Transparency International, UPB have been developing a pedagogic model that addresses corruption and urban development. The pedagogy was launched this September in a workshop at UN Habitat in Nairobi, and will be piloted in cities and universities in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The pedagogy is intended to engage students, academics and practitioners of urbanism, urban design, planning and architecture in issues of corruption in the built environment and design professions, and ways to promote transparency and design cities of integrity.

Urban Projects Bureau have been acting as consultants to international anti-corruption NGO Transparency International, developing knowledge and ideas about the role of corruption in cities, and the potential of the tools of architecture, urbanism and planning to support anti-corruption advocacy and promote transparency.

Together, we attended the 15th International Anti-Corruption Conference in Brasilia, 2012, and led a discussion session called ‘Mobilising the Metropolis, New Approaches to Fighting Corruption in the Context of Rapid Urbanisation’. With UN Habitat, Avina and Transparency International Chapters.

Currently, we are expanding the field of knowledge and understanding of urbanism and corruption and are developing articles, publications, workshops and a pedagogic model.
