Urban Projects Bureau are working with The Brick Box Gallery on a combined design and research project concerning the future vision of London’s covered markets, and are transforming an under-used market square in Tooting Market into a new public space for social and cultural events – a Living Room for Tooting.

Setting the stage for public life, the space will be transformed to include a new urban carpet, flexible seating, a performance area and bar, as part of a wider public-realm strategy for Tooting town centre.

The Living Room will provide a venue for live art-based installations that integrate community art with well-needed local social amenities; a skills exchange and enterprise hub; and a night time performance space. We’re enjoying the opportunity to create a unique kind of active public space, as part of a wider arts-led urban regeneration.
