UPB developed urban-design schemes with students from the AA and NCTU to create a new urban quarter in the Jubei district of Hsinchu. The site was immediately adjacent to a new high-speed railway station, on the periphery of the city of Hsinchu, a leading centre for high-tech industries in Taiwan. We were concerned about the impact of new speculative development on the existing ethnic minority tribal communities and agricultural villages on the site, and developed a spatial strategy and proposals for new university facilities and urban centres that integrated with the existing local economy and culture.
