Alex is an architect and urbanist, trained at the University of Cambridge and the Architectural Association. Alex’s work is broadly concerned with the relationship between social experience and urban space. Alex has worked at a number of practices in the UK, and has taught at several leading academic institutions around the world. Alex has a range of experience in practice, working on urban regeneration projects and public buildings at award-winning offices including DSDHA, Alison Brooks Architects (winners of the 2008 RIBA Stirling Prize), and Allies & Morrison Architects.
Alex is a Unit Master at the AA Graduate School Housing and Urbanism Masters programme, and a technical studies tutor for AA Diploma Unit 10. Alex also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton, and has lectured and taught design courses at London Southbank University and London Metropolitan University, where he is an examiner for RIBA Part 3. Alex is part of a research cluster re-thinking the spatial conditions of informal cities at the AA, with Elena Pascolo and Jorge Fiori, and has participated in international workshops in China, Vietnam and Taiwan.
Alex has lectured internationally on issues of urban development, social justice and current affairs, and is a freelance writer and regular contributor to Blueprint magazine. Recent publications include London+10, with Carlos Villanueva Brandt, published by AA Publications 2010, and the National Student Architecture Festival Book 2009.
