UPB are currently working on the design of a new school library for Aylesbury Grammar School. The new library will be inserted into a series of existing turn-of-the-century single-storey brick buildings with copper-roofs, which surround the school’s central courtyard, and will replace existing science labs, offices and corridors currently on the site.
The new library will be accompanied with specialist offices, meeting rooms and interview rooms, and two new classrooms with an external terrace. The conversion will be sensitive to the qualities of the existing buildings, retaining and reusing many of their original features and materials, while upgrading them to create a high-performance, sustainable and contemporary learning environment.
The new library will complete the sequence of shared study spaces around AGS’s foundation courtyard, creating a calm and reflective scholarly environment at the centre of the campus.
